There was a
time when the Firebird sports car was an affordable vehicle option, and that is
exactly what Pontiac are trying to deliver with the 2017 Firebird that they
unveiled today at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
This is a 2017 Firebird that definitely catches the eye, thanks in large part
to a bold design that may give a clue as to where Pontiac are headed with future
releases. The 2017 Pontiac Firebird is a rear-wheel-drive 2+2 concept vehicle
that takes drivers to new performance levels both on the street and at the
track. Anyone who caught a look at the 2017 Firebird today will doubtless not
be surprised to learn that it is the brainchild of the same California design
team that came up with the Trans Am concept back in 2014. It’s fair to say that
the design team were more than just a little inspired by the performance of
their turbocharged, at the Pirelli World Firebird Challenge racing series.
While driving enjoyment was a major part of the creation of the 2017 Pontiac
Firebird, the designers used the racing model to create a Firebird that was
lightweight and functional. Gone are the luxurious features you would expect in
a traditional Firebird, all of which were ditched in favor of creating an
experience that connected the driver with the car.
