To remind customers what is packed into a standard 2017 Firebird Pontiac, Pontiac notes that the base price includes new features, such as a 6.2-liter V-8 engine with gas-saving Active Fuel Management, 7-speed manual gearbox with Active Rev Matching, Drive Mode Selector system, aluminum frame, carbon fiber hood and, for the coupe models, carbon fiber removable roof panel. Every 2017 Firebird Pontiac is equipped with dual 8-inch configurable instrumentation and infotainment screens, Pontiac MyLink technology, a Bose premium audio system, keyless access with push-button starting, and more.

Load the 2017 Firebird Pontiac with equipment, similar to the car that debuted at the 2016 Auto Show in Detroit, and the price tag rises to $33,360. Pontiac has fully unveiled a new 2017 Firebird-rivalling sports car concept, called the Firebird, at the Detroit motor show. The 2017 Firebird concept was designed at the company’s design studio.

Powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the 2017 Firebird produces 315bhp. Not only this, but Pontiac has also confirmed that the model will be rear-wheel drive with a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox.

Pontiac’s chief US designer commented: ‘Driving enjoyment was the number one priority in designing the 2017 Firebird. It’s a 2+2 sports car that can turn heads as a daily driver while also being right at home on the track.  It’s about purity, simplicity and timelessness.’

Designed to appeal to the American market, the 2017 Firebird concept points towards a possible future model in the USA, although Pontiac has not confirmed 2017 Firebird model yet. The company has however confirmed that the introduction of the 2017 Firebird pushes the company’s future designs in a new direction.

The distinctive front end gets a new version of Pontiac’s ‘tiger nose’ grille, which glows white, with two sets of futuristic-looking LED headlight clusters on each side. It sits on a set of 20-inch alloy wheels, wearing 235/35R20 Pirelli P-Zero tyres at the front, and wider 275/35R20 on the back.

Inside the 2017 Firebird shows off its track car pretentions with no carpets and sports seats. Pontiac has introduced a new innovation to the 2017 Firebird, called ‘transparent a-pillars’, allowing 270-degree unimpeded view from the drivers seat.

Pontiac is toying with revealing next year’s all-important facelifted Firebird early, and has also hinted the long-standing nameplate could stick around beyond 2019.

While Pontiac was forced to rip the covers off the Firebird four months before its high-tech new models hit the showrooms this week, Pontiac is looking to stimulate interest in its fledgling large car with a drip-feed Firebird reveal program that could start as early as September - up to six months before production commences.

“We haven’t announced when we will start production of the 2017 Firebird yet, and we haven’t locked in when we will start talking about it publicly also,”  during a ceremony to celebrate the production commencing at its USA plant.

“But there is an opportunity to begin that process this year. We have a very busy year ahead of us with a raft of exciting new Pontiac products and we certainly think they all deserve some fresh air around them.

Pontiac will allegedly introduce a production version of the striking 2017 Firebird concept before the end of 2016.

 The 2017 Firebird concept was presented by Pontiac at last month's North American International Auto Show and shortly after its unveileing Pontiac dropped a few hints about a potential production model. Now, FirebirdPontiac.Com says sources within Pontiac have told them a production model will happen and the car could hit dealerships towards the end of the year.

 The exterior styling has already been completed and will reportedly stay true to the New 2017 Firebird concept while the interior is still being worked on since the concept's cabin was a bit futuristic. Details are not known about what will power Pontiac's rear-wheel drive coupe but we remind you the 2017 Firebird concept came with a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine with 315 bhp (235 kW) coupled to a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox.
