Just when it looked like automaker Pontiac had thrown away its commitment to being young and fancy free, along comes the 2017 Firebird concept scheduled to make its debut next week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The 2017 Firebird concept could help Pontiac get back on track. All we have is a view from the front, but it looks like the 2017 Firebird will have cutting-edge styling. Among the scant details that Pontiac is revealing so far that is that Firebird will also have 20-inch wheels, a carbon-fiber front splitter and a turbocharged 315-horsepower, 2-liter engine. The 2017 Firebird will be rear-wheel-drive.

If Pontiac can hold down the price, The 2017 Firebird could help it win back the youth market. If it can't, maybe it's time to rethink Pontiac's brand direction.
